Tommy-Cat Vs. Paper Towel

My partner Evan and Tommy-Cat where BOTH feeling frisky.

Evan found a stick and paper towel.  Tommy found his spot...

Let the Games Begin!

"Oh this is just too good to be true!!  Paper Towel on a STICK!!!"

I'm an Artist so I always have paper towel rolls laying about...or I should say I DID have paper towel rolls laying about.  Once Tommy-Cat came into my life I only have shredded up rolls...man o man can this boy shred!

So much balance and form!  I think he's secretly been doing Yoga to prepare for this moment :-)

He's trying to play it cool and not give into the taunting...

ATTACK!!!!!!

He has managed to get most of it, but Tommy will not leave any paper towel un-touched by is pointy ol' paws.

GAME OVER...Tommy WINS!

My Favorite Cat Videos - Crazy Cat Lady Teaches Massage and Piano Cat!

As all Internet savvy cat-lovers know, YouTube has created a cat video heaven for us!  We can get our fix on any cat video we want...from the cute and cuddly to the feisty and fierce!  We can see cats doing their cat-thing all over the world!  My favorite cat videos are of the goofy and absurd sort!

Piano-Cat became an Internet sensation years after he passed away....playing off all sorts of celebrities in their moments of glory and/or self-delusion!  If you are not familiar with Piano Cat do a search and check him out.  LOTS of people have created their own moments with him and some are really well-timed and funny...others, well not so much.  It can get a little old if you run into a few duds, but the tune is catchy and the site of his cute little face and out-stretched paws playing the piano will keep you giggling for awhile.

I have a special place in my heart for Piano-Cat because he reminds me of my Bobo who passed away in 2009.

Bobo ALWAYS made direct eye-contact with people!  That is why I took him home...he was homeless and sitting at the door of a gas station. He would meow while making direct eye-contact at everyone who walked in and out...I couldn't resist his honest determination in finding himself a home and a human!

This video is my ALL TIME FAVORITE Piano-Cat video!!!  Not only is the actual Hall & Oates music video a ridiculous flashback to what was on MTV in the 80's but how the creator of this version utilized Piano-Cat is a BRILLIANT silly good time so check it out!

My other all time favorite cat video is one that went Viral not too long ago...again, the 80's is in full blast and this woman loves and wants to nurture cats like no one I have ever seen.  She is the real-deal when it comes to a Proud Crazy Cat Lady!  Who ever edited this "How To" video made excellent choices, delivering to us some really funny moments (and good tips on how to massage your cat!)

These Kittens Are HUNGRY!!!

Nothing beats the wild abandon of hungry kitties at dinner time!!!

Here is a video of some kittens I was cat-sitting...nom, nom, nom!

Preparing for the Passing of a Beloved Pet

I've decided to do a series of blogs sharing the process I went through when my beloved Tammy-Cat passed away. It was a very hard loss for me...much harder than I could have ever imagined. I cried for months...missing her so much.  I felt ridiculous at times, but I loved that freakin' cat so much!  Not only was she my first pet to die, but really the first "person" to pass in my life. I have been lucky with not losing the people really close to me at this point in my life.  My old boy Bowser is getting pretty old and I sense I will have to deal with his passing in the semi-near future...so I'm revisiting these videos once more.  He too will be a hard loss.

I'm sure many of you reading understand what I mean about a "hard loss" or are possibly facing something similar. If not right now, you may have to confront this at some point. It is the emotional sacrifice we make by choosing to bring a pet into our life. Hopefully what I share can be a source of support for anyone dealing with the grief of losing a furry friend.

I made this video in June of 2009 right before she died in my arms. Her passing was the most beautiful spiritual experience I have ever had...I actually felt her spirit pass through me. She stayed with me in spirit for about 9 months regularly...purring on my chest at night and even when riding the bus...literally. I know it sounds nuts to some, but I could feel her purr on me just like you would a living cat.

If you are open to seeing the signs and sensing their energy...your pet will let you know they are still with you even if they are physically gone. After awhile, the more I healed, she backed off but would come to me at times when I was stressed or scared. Even as recent as last week I could feel her purr on me in a moment when I needed to feel strong and supported. Our pets love us so much...just as much as we love them.

I was feeling really emotional the day I made this video and wanted to process my feelings and share. I will post the videos I made after she passed, to help me in my grief, in the coming days, so if this is a topic that speaks to you, be sure to follow so you can stay posted with upcoming videos.

I still love and miss you Tammy-Cat!  Thank you for being such a good friend and teacher to me!

Here is one of the "WISE CATS" videos I reference above...If she could talk I think this is what she would sound like and what she would say...she was such a crone...such a wise old gal!

A POEM: One Mouse, Three Cats, and A Very Freaked Out Girl

This Poem stars the following 3 cats!
Onyx, Bowser, and Bobo

BOWSER

One Mouse, Three Cats,
& A Very Freaked Out Girl

Bowser has a mouse
in his mouth
And both their tails
are wagging madly
Bowser is sounding the alarm
Calling the others
by thumping his tail
hard on the floor
Bobo and Onyx
creep through the door
approaching them with reverence
For they both know
what is whirling and twirling
flapping
Bowser on the nose
over and over
and over again
ONYX

All three are puffed up
and poofed out
Harmonizing their
glottal growls – deep and low
Bobo
has his raccoon tail out
on display
which always means
that he is serious

They are as much in their element
as I am freaking out
Squealing, squeaking, and squawking
as if it were my head
in Bowser’s mouth

BOBO
I grab a bowl from the kitchen
I’ve been here before
I look at Bowser
Bowser looks at the bowl
It’s been years
but we’ve been here before
So I lower my hand
to stroke the back of his head
and with a quick and gentle pop
out drops the mouse
The mouse that is NOT dead

Now the mouse is in the bowl
The bowl is in my hand
My hand is freaking out
tossing the bowl
into the air
So out comes the mouse
onto the floor
where we four stand
And just like that – it’s gone

Bowser, Bobo, and Onyx,
all three,
in unison
hang their heads,
furrow their brows
and sigh
Bowser – WHY? I had it under control
Bobo – Maybe it will come back?
Onyx – (Sigh) You are such a girl!
They are disappointed in me
I know they are
I can see it in their downcast eyes
and besides
I’m good at picking up on body language

They don’t begrudge me long
For the hunt is on
and off they go
beyond the darkened
bedroom door
to score one more
for all of feline kind

I flick on the light to find
Bobo eyeing me modestly
with the very dead mouse
clinched between his teeth
and with the other two
still looking

My little 17lb.
belly-rub-lovin’ Bobo
with his
sweet meow
expressive eyes and
sensitive ways
The gentle giant of all cats
I am as proud
as I am grossed out
But really I should not be so surprised
For he did have
his raccoon tail out
on display
which always
means
he is serious

In Loving Memory of my Bobo
